Geolocation database

Prev Next

The AppGate ZTNA system provides geolocation information used in system claims and audit logs. You can configure your geolocation database source in Global Settings. Configure your Collective to use the default, your Maxmind or IPinfo account, or use a custom URL.

Updates are disabled by default. If enabled, each appliance in the Collective will check daily to see if there is an update available and download it. All Controllers and Gateways needs to be able to reach the download source.

NOTE

The geolocation database will take up approximately two times the size during the download process as it needs to be downloaded and verified before replacing the old database. If you expect the database to be 1GB in size, you will therefore need 2GB free disk on all Controller and Gateway appliances.

Default database

AppGate ZTNA by default includes the GeoLite2 City database created by MaxMind, available from https://www.maxmind.com. The accuracy of the geolocation information is only as good as the underlying database. Information is published periodically estimating this by region: https://www.maxmind.com/en/geoip2-city-database-accuracy. One of the drivers of accuracy is how often the database is updated. AppGate ZTNA uses the free downloadable databases which are updated two times per week.

To update the default database, access should be allowed to:

  • bin.appgate-sdp.com

  • updates.maxmind.com

See https://dev.maxmind.com/maxmind-server-ip-addresses for more information.
