# Identity

Use the Identity dropdown to set up the elements used in the Appgate SDP system for defining how identity is managed including Claims which are then used to control access rights. There is a dedicated section on [system configuration](/v1/docs/system-configuration) which provides more background on all these topics and more.

There is a section for each of the dropdown menu items.

Appgate SDP (Software Defined Perimeter) is a security solution that provides secure access to resources based on user identity and context, leveraging a zero trust security model.

Key-value pairs related to the identity and content of the user or device and are specific to each session.
