AppGate ZTNA is a network security system designed to help you easily and securely access network resources via access rules. called Entitlements, that are configured by your organization.

This guide will explain how to use the AppGate ZTNA Client on your device. You will find step by step instructions for the following:

  • Installing the Client

  • Connecting to the network

  • Viewing the status of the Client

  • How to use the Client

  • What to do when you see a notification

How it works

A Software-Defined Perimeter (SDP) is made up of three primary components: Client, Controller, and Gateway. The Client is your personal access point to the AppGate ZTNA network. The Controller, managed by your administrator, makes policy decisions for your system. It checks your context and grants Entitlements to your Client, allowing you access to relevant applications through the Gateway(s).

Once you’ve installed the Client, at first launch you’ll be invited to add a profile. Once you’ve added a profile, you can sign in with the Client. AppGate ZTNA offers an easy and accessible route to all your network resources via app shortcuts; similar to the way you’d open an app on your smartphone. Clicking an app shortcut icon will open a web page or application, taking you straight to what you need.

When you reboot your device, the Client will automatically restart and connect to the network.

You’ll see the Client in action when you try to access protected applications. For example, you may be prompted to verify your identity or declare a reason for accessing a specific application before being allowed to continue. In these situations a notification will appear in your Notification Bell and a User interaction window with next step instructions will open.

All your data is sent using industry standard (D)TLS protocol used by organizations worldwide for sensitive transactions.

Connecting to your network resources

After installation, you will see a gray AppGate ZTNA Client icon in the task bar (menu bar) of your device, which means you are disconnected:
